NHS Scans, COVID-19, And Your Baby

Whether you are having your first baby or your fifth, it should be one of the most magical times in your life. And, for years, the process has always been the same. You find out that you are pregnant, and you and your partner visit the doctor to verify it. Then, you have a series of check-ups that you and your partner, your mum, or your bestie attend. One of those appointments includes a scan to see how your baby is doing and possibly to discern its sex. This is the big one. The most important appointment because it tells a lot about your pregnancy and your baby and it is typically shared with someone you care about.

New COVID-19 Rules

Enter 2020 and the COVID-19 crisis. Unfortunately, our amazing NHS is having to place restrictions on guests due to the pandemic, so at present, you are alone at the scan and at all other appointments too. And, while none of this seems fair at all, it is necessary to reduce the spread of the coronavirus. But what if you really want your spouse, your mum, or your bestie present during your reassurance scan?

Private 4D Ultrasound Clinics and Our Role During the Pandemic

There is a solution, and it’s offered here at Hey Baby 4D Bishop’s Stortford. We are very happy to say, that we have been able to adjust our services to keep everyone safe and therefore we can continue to provide a wide range of ultrasound scans including Early Reassurance, Wellbeing & Gender Reveal, Bonding & Reassurance, and Wellbeing & 4D VIP Baby Scans to women across Hertfordshire including Stevenage, Welwyn Garden City,  Hoddesdon, Hatfield and beyond.

When we chat to our customers, the message we get time and again is that more women are choosing Hey Baby 4D Bishop’s Stortford, because they are allowed to have their partner or a friend (from the same household or social bubble) accompany them during all scans, plus up to two children under 11. This is often even more important for those attending our 8-week early reassurance scans. Being able to share this special moment with someone else and not having to be alone makes receiving essential information about the health and well-being of your baby a much more involved process for you and your partner, can provide much needed peace of mind and it gives you both the chance to bond with your unborn baby.

*During local and national lockdowns, the primary focus of all scans offered is the wellbeing and reassurance of mummy and baby. A secondary purpose of the scan can also be performed if there is time once the well-being checks have been carried out, which is the gender and 4D services. We are unable to offer rescans during the lockdown as the main objective would have been already performed.

Reassurance at a time you need it the most

Being pregnant during a global pandemic can be a really scary time.

Not only are you navigating the new measures which are constantly changing, but protecting loved ones, working full time and juggling childcare can be a lot for anyone to take – and doing it all whilst pregnant and having to attend appointments and scans alone not only takes the joy out of the pregnancy but also means your expectant partner misses out on the journey with you.

I know first-hand how this feels. I fell pregnant in January this year and this was the situation that I found myself in. This is why services such as ours are so important; we offer crucial early reassurance scans from eight weeks, baby bonding, gender reveal and 4D videos of your baby. Most importantly, we allow up to two adult guests with Mummy, or one adult guest plus two children, meaning no one needs to miss out on this special time.

The clinic provides a fun, family-friendly and safe sanctuary for you to enjoy the happy news together. Of course, all strict hygiene and Covid measures are in place – face masks, temperature checks, gloves, hand gel etc – and surfaces are cleaned between each client.

We take our duty of care very seriously. We follow the guidelines from the Government very closely, but also the advice from the BMUS (British Medical Ultrasound Society) and the CQC (Care Quality Commission), meaning we will always adapt to the strictest of guidelines to keep you safe. Our services are performed by fully qualified and experienced sonographers.

The ultimate objective of Hey Baby 4D Bishop’s Stortford is to provide high-quality ultrasound services to expectant parents. The experience of pregnancy is so different for every parent and Hey Baby aims to add a little extra magic to that experience wherever possible.

How potential tragedy gave birth to a great business idea for Hey Baby 4D’s Daniele and Jonathan Hammond

A husband and wife have used potential tragedy to inspire them to go into business and be part of parents’ pregnancy journeys.

Jonathan and Daniele Hammond have opened Hey Baby 4D Bishop’s Stortford in Sworders Yard, off North Street, to provide high-quality ultrasound services combining a fun, family experience alongside reassurance, safety, hygiene and care.

The clinic offers reassurance scans from eight weeks, gender/sex confirmation, wellbeing and immersive 4D scans. All scans are conducted by a qualified sonographer and the clinic is fully accessible.

And with gender reveal parties on the rise, the scanning room also includes special ‘gender reveal lighting’ which turns the room pink if you are having a girl and blue if you are having a boy.

Jonathan and Daniele, both 42, had the idea of opening their own pregnancy scanning clinic when they were expecting their first child, Harry, three years ago.

After experiencing some unusual pain, Daniele had to have an emergency NHS scan as the pregnancy was suspected to be ectopic.

“Thankfully, everything was as it should be, but it prompted us to seek the services of a private ultrasound clinic for regular reassurance throughout the rest of the pregnancy,” said Daniele.

The couple, who live in Woodford Green and are expecting their second child, then decided to take the plunge after Jonathan almost lost his life during a five-day spell in intensive care having been diagnosed with meningococcal septicemia, which is a strain of meningitis, three years ago.

“It was a real wake-up call and we decided life was too short not to go for it,” said Daniele.

Jonathan had worked as a music industry promoter, a policeman in the Met and a landscape gardener before illness struck, while Daniele has enjoyed a successful 20-year career in financial services.

They are now looking forward to becoming part of the Stortford community by supporting expectant parents and integrating with local groups and businesses.

“The experience of pregnancy is so different for every parent,” said Daniele. “Hey Baby aims to add a little extra magic to that experience wherever possible.”

Their Stortford clinic is one of 18 Hey Baby franchises either open or in the process of opening across the UK. The company was established in 2015 in Derbyshire by a healthcare professional who noticed a gap in the local market for a high-quality ultrasound clinic.

Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions, some maternity departments have had to make alterations to their regular service which has meant some fathers have missed the opportunity to attend scans.

With strict protocols and hygiene measures in place, Jonathan and Daniele’s clinic can allow guests to attend from up to two households as long as social distancing is observed.

“As a father and current expectant father, I know how much I benefited from attending scans alongside Daniele,” said Jonathan.

“I like to think partners who have potentially missed out on attending scans will be rest assured that they can have the opportunity to do so.”
